New addition to the Registry: Mark Jones's Devin Triumph TR3
Really interesting history on this Devin. It was built and raced by Bill Devin. Plus, once owned by my favorite museum the Simeone Foundation.
The Devin Triumph TR3 was raced by William S. Devin in several SCCA events in 1957. The car performed very well, winning several races and awards.
Here are some of the car's most notable performances:
• In the March 1957 SCCA National Sports Car Races at Palm Springs, California, Devin finished first in class and second overall.
• In the April 1957 SCCA National Sports Car Races at Road Atlanta, Georgia, Devin finished first in class and third overall.
• In the May 1957 SCCA National Sports Car Races at Bridgehampton, New York, Devin finished first in class and second overall.
• 1957 Watkins Glen Grand Prix: Devin finished 3rd overall and 1st in class
• 1957 Bridgehampton Road Race: Devin finished 2nd overall and 1st in class
• 1957 Sebring 12 Hours: Devin finished 10th overall and 3rd in class.
• These results helped Devin to win the 1956 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Championship. He was the first American driver to win the championship in a car that he had built himself.

Newly submitted Devin C - Owner Laird McIntyre
This may be the last original Devin C made. It's a 1966 Devin Corvair , that was originally sold by Bill Devin to Laired as a owner assembled kit. Laired knew Bill from the SoCal racing scene. This is a one owner car, with all the original paperwork. The Devin is located in AZ, the hot spot of Devin C's. This is a great example and in a gorgeous color.

For Sale- New Devin D/C front fenders
I purchased two new front fenders from Devin Sports Cars. But, when I took the fender flares off my original ones, there was very little repair work needed, so I would like to sell these. I would sell the pair for $400 or separately for $250 each. The buyer would be responsible for picking them up in MA or arranging for shipping.

Chuck Derer has been videotaping cars for over 20 years and is finally sharing his Devin SS footage with us.
I'm not sure if Chuck knew this, but Richard was an owner of Devin Sports Cars. The SS is a 1959 Prototype still owned by him and his wife Susan Haskell.

Hermann Schwarz's Devin D restoration is awesome! Maybe it's just me, but new silver paint on a Devin never fails to impress.
The car was purchased from Donald Nardo in 2014. It was then brought to Germany and lovingly restored. Many Porsche items were added for good measure. A double ignition roller bearing Porsche engine, plus gauges and brakes from a 550.

DeGaynor's Family Affair with Devin Specials
Jon and his father Scott DeGaynor have shared a Devin passion for over 50 years. Scott's #111 car has been in their family for over 50 years. It originally had a Desoto Hemi and Automative transmission, with a Halibrand quick change rear end. Then, they built a new chassis (in the 70's) based on MG A frame rails and GM independent front suspension and GM rear end. The car has had a 327 Chevy and then a 350 Chevy. It was raced in local SCCA events in the 70s and early 80s and didn’t run again until last week. The car was completely redone, but keeping the base MG frame rails and the SB Chevy.
Jon's Devin #11 was originally Jim Melton's car. He has owned it now for 2 years and has been racing it throughout the Midwest. It features a 350 Chevy (with 4 Rochester carbs), a 4 speed transmission, Jaguar rear end, and a independent front suspension. Here are some pictures of their gorgeous cars.

Carl's missing Devin special
If anyone knows the whereabouts of this Devin special please contact me here. It was built by Carl Gillberg in 1963 and based on a '56 Chevy frame that was shortened to a 98" wheelbase.
Carl Gillberg's visit with Bill Devin
Carl took a pilgrimage to Bill Devin's house in 2000 right before Bill's passing and is now sharing the photos of his trip. More to come... Thank you, Carl!
I just received Robert's email and thought I would post it-
"Bill Devin was my great uncle. I am his sister’s only grandchild. The last time I saw him was when we visited him in California in 1990 (I was 11). We stayed in touch via the phone until he died a few months after my dad did. My father was always very proud of Uncle Bill and the cars he made and so am I. It is so nice to see so many of them are still being collected and treasured to this day. Those pictures of the car bodies under his car port in 2000 made my cry a little. They were there the last time I saw him. It was a very special trip down memory lane for me. He was a very loving and special man. It makes me happy to see someone keeping his memory alive."
Thank you and Godbless,
Robert L. Galloway Jr.
PS, I remember sitting around Uncle Bill’s kitchen table that summer in 1990, we were all just talking and catching up, when the phone rang.
He was only on the phone for about ten minutes or so. I heard him say, “uh-huh, okay $100,000. I’ll get started next week.” (this was 28 years ago so I might be a bit off on the price. That’s a long time to remember.) When asked what that was about, he said “A guy wants me to build a car for him.” I remember thinking “That’s so cool!! Wow uncle bill is rich now!”

Devin’s at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2017- By Brian Miller
Every August automotive enthusiasts make the pilgrimage to the Monterey peninsula in California to celebrate the ultimate in automobile design, performance, and preservation. Events range from the sophistication of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, to the rapid fire intensity of bidders hoping to take home their dream car at the auction tents, and even to the excitement of vintage racers competing at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. One of the most exclusive events during Monterey Car Week is The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
Eight of the original twenty-five Devin C’s gathered at The Quail to pay respect to Bill Devin and help share his legacy with the auto enthusiast who assembled for Monterey Car Week 2017. This event served to spotlight the Devin C for a new generation of passionate sports car enthusiast to discover. Based on the response, there is little doubt the Devin legacy will carry on.
I would like to thank all the Devin C owners for making this possible and specifically Brian Miller for organizing, participating and documenting the event. -Kreg

John Bigler's Devin Morgan Build
After purchasing the virgin Devin body from Jim Bartlett at Echidna Racing in 1995, I finally have a drivable chassis.
I wanted to fully sort out the mechanics and tweak the seat, pedal and steering locations before I made the aluminum interior panels and mounted the body. I've made a temporary plywood foot box and added temporary lights, mirror and Brooklands windscreen -- it's fully legal with antique plate and insurance. As the photo shows, it's great fun to drive the Devin go-kart to Cars & Coffee!
The chassis is a resurrection of my '59 Morgan Plus 4 parts car, with all new components, shortened to 84-inch wheelbase and narrowed to 47-inch track, to match the D-size Devin "295" body. The engine is a Formula Ford type 1600 crossflow Cortina Ford from a 1975 Morgan 4/4. in go-kart form, the Devin weighs only 1,072 lbs., with fuel.
Currently, the Devin go-kart has become the Devin marionette. The front and rear sections are suspended from the ceiling so that I can position each separately as I plan and fabricate the interior panels and mounting structure.

The newest addition to the Devin family, Geoffrey Hacker's 1953 Jowett Jupiter Special
Now it is possible that it is not a Devin, but a Byers CR90. The CR90 is super close in shape, and I have heard that it was made with molds taken from a Devin. Similarly to how the Devin was made from splashes off an Ermini. For more on That see Geoff's website- Link

Looking for history
If anyone knows anything about this car please let me know. If you have a picture of the rear end of the Mangham-Davis car please share it with me. Thanks, Kreg
I know of an old Devin-Chevy Special here in Colorado Springs, and have been trying to trace it's history for the owner.
Because of the unusual chassis, I have reason to believe that this may be the "missing" Mangham-Davis car from Dallas, ca. 1957-59.
Your website has a brief article about the latter car, and mentions an old magazine article that showed this car.
I think that this article would prove or disprove my theory, but how to track it down?
Any help appreciated.

The previous owner bought it in 1999 (from Bill Devin) as a major project after Bill himself had rescued it from a guy in north Phoenix in 1979. It was completely restored starting in 1999, then raced extensively, appearing at the Monterey Historics 6 times up to about 2009.

Did someone say Devin drag racer?
Just as I had been thinking about drag racing Devin's, Ron Zavarella contacted me about his father's car. I had this photo on the site for years without knowing it's story. - "Hello, I'm writing to you 50 years after the fact but my experience with the Devin revolves around Drag Racing. The car owned and driven by Marion Walton held the NHRA record in the early '60's. My Dad Savin, purchased this car from an ad in the back of the National Dragster. I remember the car was out of Louisiana and was trailered all the way up to Hartford, CT. The car needed extensive work but we completely did it over. It was then driven By my older brother Dick Zavarella during the '65 - '66 season. Above you will see it with a silver paint job coming off the line at York U S 30 against an early T Bird. More pics show it in the gravel covered pits at Indy with the name A-GO-GO car #1107 and another shot with the Jack Merkel built 327 coming through the cowl. I also know the owner /driver of "Old Grandad" And yes, I'm still racing."- Ron Zavarella More on the Featured Cars page
Devin drag racer body sold
This Devin drag car body was found in NJ sitting on top of an out building. It probably raced in the Late 50's - early 1960's at Atco Raceway. This was my local track growing up in South Jersey. I would take my Grand National down to race on street nights. Good times. I called the owner to see if I could buy it, but it was just sold and on its way to North Carolina. My wife will be happy.
Richard Boone's Devin in Norway?
Christian Bjørtomt contacted me to share his Devin restoration and see if I knew any history on his car. As soon as I saw that blue and white paint scheme, I thought It's the Richard Boone Devin Monza Porsche! I started doing research on the car immediately and I conveniently already owned the Motor trend magazine it was featured in. It said, "The early Devin Monza body was installed over a Porsche 356 Speedster chassis." The 356 chassis checks out from a visual inspection, but the SN # was removed when imported and then reassigned in Norway. According to my old Motor Trend Magazine, Bill Devin actually mounted the body for Mr. Boone. Then, I was told that the car was rumored to have been burned up in Boone's house fire. I located and talked to his Son who was too young and couldn't remember either way. After a bunch of digging, I discoverer and old news paper article saying that the car was spared. Just when I thought it was positively the car, I was then told about a very similar car owned by Clark Smith on a 356 chassis. Clark Smith made a racing video series called "Hay Bales and Asphalt". If anyone knows him or anything about his Devin please contact me. What ever car this is, it is a gorgeous Devin with awesome Porsche guts. It doesn't get much better. Very cool car. Thank you for sharing Christian.

The Devin / Ermini Connection
John Priddy shared this Interesting article from VELOCETODAY and his follow up comment is below.
Thanks for post a very informative article on the Ermini 357. That car has been a fascination for me until now. I was a friend of Bill Devin and have a Devin C, the Corvair powered model. When I was restoring my C, Bill sold me a new replacement fiberglass body. On the way to the shop that made the body, I talked to Bill about the Ermini connection. He claimed that the fiberglass ‘splash’ he took off the Ermini was the rear fender where that beautiful knife edge integrates with the rest of the body. That said, he was a friend of Jimmy Orr so it’s not hard to imagine where the donor car may have come from. The first Devin bodies, of which he sold ‘thousands’, did in fact look like very much like an Ermini. However, the later complete Devin SS and the D and C models had a body that evolved from and were very different from the 295 bodies as Bill called them.
Bill traveled to Italy with the intention of purchasing a car from Enzo to race LeMans I believe it was 1952. I have pictures from that trip that Bill took so I’m inclined to believe his version of what happened. He wanted to purchase prior years’ grand prix cars, have them re-bodied, and sell them in the US. He then went to Scaglietti and arranged to have bodies made. However once Luigi Chinetti found out what was about to happen he sent Devin packing, stating that “Ferrari doesn’t sell used cars!” Bill imported several Ferrari’s, one of which ended up on the cover of Road & Track magazine. Jon Von Neuman and Masten Gregory were some of the buyers that bought and raced Ferrari’s that Bill imported.

Devin Mickey Mouse or Mighty Mouse Special. Anyone know which one?
I received this vintage picture from long time Devin fan Barry Waters.

I offered the new owner the original parts that were removed from the car when the car suspension and brakes were changed over to race disc brakes and new style suspension. The car also had a 5 speed transmission installed in the car as well. I have the Original parts for sale for $5,000 dollars. That would include the 1957 Alfa engine, the original suspension from the car, the Alfin/bendix race drum brakes, a new rear body section, a new R.H.D headrest, a new R.H.D. windscreen, and much more. If someone is wanting to build a Devin this would be a good start. -Tnx, Guy [email protected]

Devin construction
Construction of the Devin started in the year 1957. Then life became important, so the Devin was finished about 1990. Being the original builder and a lot older, I still enjoy driving and working on the car.
Devin body
The body was Devin (T) type, for American components, with a 96 inch. Wheel base and tread width of 60 + inches. I had to modify the body to except the 56 inch. Tread width the frame was welded for. The reason being the frame was already welded for a smaller body. The waiting time for delivery of the body was 1 year, so I found a used body $200.00
Frame
The frame used was a 1955 Chev., lighting and added cross members to increase stiffness. Engine mounted 6 inch to the right side of car.

Hal Duffy is looking for his old Devin Special
"Last I heard the car was in Belgium." If you know of the car email Hal HERE
I first acquired this car in 1965. The "D" sized kit body was mounted on a TR-3 chassis. In 1976, the old chassis was abandoned and a new one created to tie together a Ford V6 motor, Triumph front suspension, and Datsun IRS rear suspension. A bit of Autocross experience led to replacing the wire wheels with two-piece light-weights and good adhesion tires. The car was featured in Kit Car Magazine, ruining my argument that this is a Special Construction and not a kit car. -Hal Duffy
